France
Anketill ( the Christian name of early de Hubys) is a name still used in France, especially in the area of Anjou. It seems probable that the early ancestors came over to England in the late 11th Century (i.e. after the 1066 Battle of Hastings) and received their manors from King William or from one of his magnates. With an eldest son marrying a Breton girl and settling down in France (currently near to Nantes, on the south-eastern corner of Brittany by the Loire estuary) and with grand-children to baby-sit it was a double pleasure to have a residence in the Anjou region in rural countryside close by Pouance with its old castle protecting the ancient boundaries between Brittany and Anjou et Maine/France.
Built in the mid-1550s (of stone, oak and slate) and contemporary with the local castle the house is the oldest in the Parish. Depending upon which way you come it is also both the first and the last! It is currently being restored as close to its original state as possible - but including some modern comforts!
