The Federation of Self Employed and Small Businesses Ltd.

The Armorial Bearings of the National Federation of Self Employed and Small Businesses Ltd. - better known as the F.S.B. (Federation of Small Businesses) - were designed by Bernard who, as a Past National Chairman, petitioned for and was granted the following on their behalf.

The shield is an heraldic formalisation of their "Little Man       badge" which is a quarter of the Union Flag indicating     that the self-employed sector in the UK employs one quarter of the national work-force and generates one quarter of Gross Domestic Product. The crest (above the shield) has a crest coronet to indicate the best in their field from which the hands of the artisan/craftsman releases the dove (free spirit) of enterprise. The supporters holding up the shield are the badger and the beaver - badgered by authority and yet beavering away in spite of it all. The shield stands on a 'compartment' which contains all of the National floral emblems (Rose, Thistle, Daffodil and Clover-leaf) to indicate the National aspect while these flowers are 'beset by bees' - the traditional heraldic way to show hard work and industriousness.

The first letters of the Motto ("Nothing Stronger - Always The Same") spell out N.F.S.E. - the original name of the National Federation of Self-Employed.
